Kate stayed here in October: "The new owners have changed and improved the look of the lodge extensively within the outline of the existing buildings and built two new chalets as well. The lodge is managed by Simon and Diane and owned by their son who is the biggest dealer in African art in SA so the new look is more modern with African touches (but still quite understated so that it works within their rural setting.) They have extended the main lodge building outwards with the addition of a wooden deck). They now have a vibrant and acclaimed restaurant which is a very welcome addition. It takes outside diners (though Emily Moon's guests have first right of refusal). I really liked the decor changes and particularly loved the ancient carved wooden doorways and doors. Mallard River now has one family unit with a second en suite bedroom below the main bedroom so that two children of any age (older as well) can be accommodated in comfort."
