Rocktail Bay, in the beautiful Kosi Coastal Reserve in northern Maputaland, has a truly stunning setting behind forested sand dunes, just metres away from virgin white beach. According to Diver Magazine, this is one of the Top 10 dive destinations in the world. As befits the beach location, activities focus on the sea with snorkelling excursions to Lala Nek and nearby scuba diving. Other activities include nature walks through the coastal forest, horse riding and open 4x4 drives to Black Rock which will enthral naturalists and photographers. From October to March guests can participate in the Giant Leatherback Turtle Research programme.
Accommodation is 'bush luxury' with wood and thatch 'tree house' chalets on stilts with indoor and outdoor showers under the forest canopy. The lodge has an inviting lounge, pub and pool. Home-cooked meals are enjoyed either in the dining room, at the pool or outdoors under a huge mahogany tree. This remote lodge is run in conjunction with the local community so you are welcome to visit to the nearby school and clinic. Children are welcome with a family suite available.
