Kulala Desert Lodge and Little Kulala | Namibia

[Namibia Hotels and Accommodation]
Kulala Desert Lodge is a small and intimate lodge close to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, with only 13 rooms and particularly fine cuisine. Each 'kulala' has cool clay walls, en suite facilities and a private veranda from which you view the stunning sunsets. Above is a delightful rooftop sleeping area so you can sleep out under the stars of the desert sky if you wish. The lodge is 30km south of Sesriem but their private entrance to the Park is the closest to Sossusvlei, with some of the highest sand dunes in the world, and is used for their 4x4 guided dune excursions. Nature walks and sundowner drives are also offered, with horse riding and hot-air ballooning optional extras.

Its sister lodge, the luxurious Little Kulala has some of the design features but is smaller with only 8 thatched and canvas chalets each with its own wrap-around elevated deck and small plunge pool.

Maddy visited Kulala in December when she was staying at Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp:

"The next morning we had our wake up call at 0430 for the morning drive to Sossusvlei. We saw the most beautiful sunrise just before we entered the Sossusvlei. Our guide Rusta was brilliant and has excellent knowledge of just about everything as well as fantastic driving skills. On arrival at Sossusvlei we took off our shoes and went for the 1 km walk to the Dead Vlei. The vlei has a diameter of about 1.2km."
