Zimbali Lodge | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Zimbali Lodge is easily the most luxurious beach resort on the Dolphin coast, a an elegant and sophisticated hideaway only 30 minutes from Durban. The 76 air-conditioned rooms and suites have Afro-eastern inspired architecture and hand carved mahogany furniture. Every room at Zimbali opens onto a private, furnished balcony offering sweeping views down the valley to the sea.

The superb Tom Weiskopf course descends from the hotel down the valley to the Indian Ocean. It has two distinct sides, with some holes being in open former sugar cane fields and many others cut through the indigenous forest and coastal wetlands. Other facilities include tennis, walking trails, a breath-taking rim pool and deck, a health and beauty spa as well as its own private beach with beach club.

Kate stayed with her family in July 2005:
"The lodge is looking beautiful with its stunning setting with sweeping views down the valley to the sea, and the stylish pool which seems to drop over a cliff. There are now some residential houses around now so it is less secluded but the bush on one side is not going to be built on so the ambience and setting remains superb. Main activities are swimming, walking, golf, tennis and using the health and beauty spa (moderate size).

Zimbali is more suited to slightly older children than ours - preferably ones that can swim and can sleep alone in their own room as they have very few interleading rooms and they only accommodate one extra child per room."
