112 species of bird, Samango monkeys, four species of turtle and giant coconut crabs all live in the dense vegetation near the lodge. In the startling blue waters surrounding the island are Marlin, sailfish, broadbill and other game fish. Spectacular coral gardens very close to shore mean snorkelling is exceptional and scuba diving here is world-class. 12 beachside villas are enormous (175 sq metres) and well spaced apart, and the understated luxury comes from fine detailing and finishing as much as sumptuous materials. For the ecologically-aware with the time and money to reach such a remote spot, this combination of superb lodge and superb diving is unbeatable

Ginny stayed May 2007 Vamizi is the most northerly of the island lodges in the Quirimbas, an hour's flight in the comfortable 10 seater Vamizi plane, then 35 minutes by road. Vamizi is acknowledged by all to have the best beaches of soft, white sand and the most extensive dive sites in the region. However, its rate is also the highest!
The management style is fairly hands-off and there seems to be a reluctance to bring too much first-world pampering to this remote environment. This could come as a surprise to some, bearing in mind the price tag. I think Vamizi will most suit those who routinely enjoy the conventional trappings of success and who will positively relish the “less is more” ideology as a refreshing and idealistic change.
