Princess Bora Lodge is the classiest hotel on Ile Sainte Marie and one of the very best in Madagascar. The main buildings are interconnecting circular rooms, like very grand huts: one is a bar, another a library, two make up the restaurant, one houses reception and the newest one is an underground cellar. A Zen infinity pool is set into an expansive timber deck, just yards above the palms which line the sandy beach. Sun loungers are set out on the beach each day and the perfect view is enhanced by the fetching jetty.
Currently there are 14 rooms at Princess Bora Lodge. Villas are round and largely open-sided with wooden shutters, en suite shower room, separate loo and fan. Luxury villas are octagonal and 40% larger with a mezzanine for up to two extra beds, twin wash basins and air-conditioning. All rooms have a room safe, furniture and flooring of local wood, and a wrap-around veranda with easy chairs.
There is a Dive Centre and sports fishing can be arranged Off Ile Sainte Marie 4x4 or Quad bike excursions (with a guide) take guests to spots such as Coco Bay, the Princess Boras own private beach, for superb snorkelling or to mangroves and primary forest. Boat excursions are made to smaller islets. From July through to September, guests at Princess Bora can participate in innovative scientific whale observation trips.
