Etosha Aoba Lodge | Namibia

[Namibia Hotels and Accommodation]
Etosha Aoba Lodge, on the eastern edge of Etosha National Park, is a friendly, charming thatched lodge amidst shady Tamboti trees. Seven pleasant thatched cottages each have a ceiling fan, mosquito net, tea/coffee facilities, en suite shower room and generous veranda. Etosha Aoba Lodge only 20 minutes from Etosha gate and has its own small private game reserve. An appealing aspect is the unique opportunity to actually walk upon the Fisher salt pan as part of a sundowner game drive. We strongly recommend taking this drive. Other facilities a swimming pool, waterhole and a rewarding bird hide.

Recent site inspection trip by Kate and Pierre in Nov:
"The lodge is open air with a bar and sitting chairs leading out to a stone deck and a swimming pool with wooden loungers. There are sunshades or dappled shade from the trees. The rooms are fairly small but simply furnished. Stone floors with coir rugs, wooden furniture with a large square mosquito net, electricity and adaptors, tea/coffee facilities, ceiling fan, a 'bush' minibar (which is a small cool box brought to your room with a selection of drinks) and a patio with two comfortable chairs.

The two things I particularly liked about Etosha Aoba were:
· The sundowner drive - this is highly recommended and inexpensive (N$150p at that point). It lasts about 2 hours and George is extremely informative about termite mounds, aardvark activities, trees, birds and we also saw lots of game: giraffe, zebra, impala, wildebeest. (There's even a pride of lions on the reserve which George occasionally sees.) The drive stops at Fischer Pan which is part of the Etosha Pan which is on their farm for sundowner drinks looking over the pan. Magical!
·I liked the evening meal which was set outside with white linen and crystal glasses and lit with lanterns. It was very atmospheric.
