The malaria-free Big 5 private game reserve of Kariega is set in the pristine wilderness of the Kariega River Valley bordered by the picturesque Kariega and Bushmans Rivers and incorporating contrasting riverine, bushveld and grassland eco-systems. It offers abundant game including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species. As well as morning and evening open vehicle game drives with experienced rangers, Kariega is unique in offering safe walking close to abundant plains game and diverse activities including river cruises on the delightful African Queen, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming in beautiful river pools and visits to the nearby beaches of Kenton-on-Sea less than 15 minutes drive.
KARIEGA LODGE comprises spacious and comfortable air-conditioned one, two or three bedroom log chalets, all en-suite, with private viewing decks and some with private pools. Each Chalet is serviced and well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, a fireplace, and portable braai (barbecue) facilities. Fine traditional meals are provided in the Architectural Award-winning restaurant or boma, which expertly integrates with nature and the environment and radiates an informal, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Kariega Lodge is particularly child-friendly with its log chalet accommodation Given the design of the reserve, Kariega can allow younger children to enjoy a game drive to view the abundant plains game and to walk in safety, whilst Big Five game drives are available for children of six years and older. The sheer range of activities is also very appealing for active children.
UKHOZI LODGE is a luxury African bush lodge with a stone homestead around a swimming pool. Ukhozi, meaning ‘place of eagles’ is an apt name for the lodge as the 10 spacious, air-conditioned luxurious suites each have dramatic bird’s eye views onto the Eastern Cape bushveld below. Each of the log chalets has its own deck with private plunge pools.
RIVER LODGE is a 5 star lodge overhanging banks of the Bushmans River with spectacular views of course and 10 superbly appointed spacious air-conditioned thatched suites.
THE HOMESTEAD is a restored 100 year old farmhouse with 5 comfortable bedrooms and perfect for a family or group of friends (up to ten people). |
