Tubu Tree Camp | Botswana

[Botswana Hotels and Accommodation]
Tubu Tree is a small camp on the western side of Hunda Island in a drier, game-rich area of the Jao concession. This traditional tented camp has a homely, relaxed atmosphere. The five smartly-appointed tents all have inside and outside showers and a large elevated wooden deck offering great views over the floodplains. The appealing main bar and dining room area, under the canopy of a large Marula tree, is constructed in canvas over different levels, leading down to a pretty plunge pool. The camp offers diverse habitats from dry Kalahari sandveld to mopane and riverine forest as well as permanent waterways. Game viewing is mainly land-based, with day and night game drives and bush walks though high flood waters usually allow for boating, fishing and mokoro trips. Elephant, lion, zebra, red lechwe, giraffe, tsessebe and wildebeest can be seen on the floodplains whilst kudu, impala, leopard are in the forested areas.

Peter stayed here in November 2006:
"This is one of those Camps which for me manages to get it just right: not off-puttingly formal but still slickly run; not too big in either size or guest numbers but still spacious enough and with sufficient guests so that it doesn't feel ridiculously exclusive; food which is not too fussily presented but fantastic nonetheless. Overall there's a feeling of being able to really unwind here and relax that appealed to me."

"The guiding was superb too, and we were lucky enough to witness an amazing stand off between a troop of baboons clambering around some dead trees and a small pack of wild dogs. One of the baboons would edge out along a springy branch until a couple of the dogs taunted it from below forcing a retreat. The mood was very edgy but after twenty minutes or so the wild dogs trotted off in search of other adventures."
