Rhino Post Safari Lodge is a 16-bed lodge, set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi riverbed, within a 12,000 hectare private concession in the Kruger National Park. The nature of a wilderness area is that there are no permanent structures, so Rhino Post Safari Lodge was built using natural materials of stone, wood, thatch and canvas to create an authentic bush ambience. The utmost care was taken to minimise the environmental impact of the lodge, and to that end, no concrete was used in the building’s foundations. Each of the eight luxury suites includes bedroom and lounge area with impressive views of the riverbed from the bathroom, outdoor shower and private deck. The suites are set out in an open plan style with wooden floors, thatched roofs, canvas walls, minibar, telephone and an overhead fan. Each ensuite bathroom includes a freestanding bath, twin basins, separate toilet and an outdoor shower. The main lodge, with its extensive wine cellar, cosy fireplace and bar, is the perfect spot for a sundowner, overlooking the waterhole in the dry river bed.
Approximately 10km north-east of Skukuza, the concession shares a 15km boundary with Mala Mala in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, with game moving freely between the two reserves. Rhino Post focuses solely on game drives whilst its sister lodge, Plains Camp, and the sleep-out camp, focus on walking safaris. Usually clients combine one or two nights at Rhino Post before continuing to Plains Camp for walking safaris. |

Kate stayed at Rhino Post Safari Lodge in July 2007: "I liked Rhino Post Safari Lodge but I think on balance that I would only book clients into Rhino Post alongside a stay at Plains Camp as it is this combination that works well with game drives for a night or two at Rhino Post followed by walking at Plains Camp.
The lodge itself is quite luxurious, but in an understated way. It is a very eco-friendly lodge, with minimum impact on the vegetation and no off-road driving allowed, given the sensitive nature of the terrain. (This is the only Kruger concession which does not allow off road driving). Having said that, the concession is in a good area of the Kruger, backing onto Mala Mala on one side and north of Skukuza on the other side. We saw a wide variety of game on our two drives, which took place mainly on the public roads including a leopard in a tree, two separate prides of lion, buffalo, elephant and a rhino." |
