Chongwe River House is one of two 'Safari Houses' built and designed by Neil Rocher who is well known for his previous work. It is located in the Lower Zambezi National Park close to Chongwe River Camp. This magnificent private house is ideal for families or friends (up to 8 guests) looking for a little privacy. It is completely self contained with its own private staff (hostess, guide, chef and batman), allowing guests complete exclusivity and flexibility. Guests are free to, not only design their own meal menus, but also their game-viewing rhythm. The style of Chongwe River House is more fluid than its sister lodge, Luangwa Safari House, with unusual organic pediments to the flowing building. Theres a double storey open plan sitting room/dining room leading out to a large deck with flowing swimming pool overlooking the river. Each of the 4 bedrooms is individually decorated with its own en suite bathroom. Game viewing takes place on foot, by boat, by canoe or on night drives. Fishing for tiger fish is also available on a catch and release basis. The Royal Zambezi Airstrip is approx 15 mins transfer time. You can combine Chongwe River House with Luangwa Safari House in the South Luangwa National Park and/or Tangala House on the banks of the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls and even the historic Shiwa N'gandu House.
Families are very welcome at Chongwe River House. The staff are fun, friendly and competent. The safari activities will be individually tailored to your family taking your children's ages and temperament into account. Safari packs are given to each child with quizzes, animal books etc. Child minding is on offer and children can eat special children's meals at a time convenient to them. They can also help the camp staff if they wish, making biscuits for afternoon tea or collecting eggs from the chickens etc. Please note that the swimming pool, for cooling off during the heat of the day, is NOT fenced.

Perfect for friends or family with children over 7 years old. Taking Chongwe River House gives you complete flexibility on your safari. Indeed because it has both a ranger and a boatman, your party doesn't even have to all do the same activities at the same time. Some can opt for a bush walk or game drive with your ranger whilst other can enjoy some fishing or leisurely game-viewing by boat. Highly recommended!"
