Mala Mala Camp is a traditional safari camp with a long history of providing a top quality safari experience. It is situated on one of the finest areas of the Sabi Sands private game reserve and is the original safari lodge. It is set in beautiful surroundings on the banks of the Sand River. The ochre coloured buildings with their thatched roofs, set among manicured lawns, blend with the large shady trees. Each of the 18 air-conditioned rooms and suites enjoys a spectacular view of the surrounding bush and are equipped with ‘His’ and ‘Her’ en-suite bathrooms, insect proof screens and large twin beds. The main lodge has a lot of history, captured in the furnishings, old photos and pictures. The spacious lounge displaying works of art and animal trophies leads onto an expansive wooden deck, which provides an elevated view of animals watering in the Sand River. Dinner, announced by the beating of African drums, is served under the stars in a reed-enclosed boma.

We recommend Mala Mala Camp for excellent sightings of the Big Five, and for a well-run overall safari experience. One of our consultants will gladly help you with any further questions you may have.
Kate stayed at Mala Mala with her family: "Mala Mala does not aim to compete with the top game lodges on the quality of the interior decoration. It aims to provide a top game-viewing experience in a supremely comfortable environment. The lodge has a stunning setting over the Sand River with a feeling of openness and space. The main lodge is traditional with animal trophies (be warned!) on the wall but this was to emphasis the history of the area. Our room was very spacious but also very traditional. It had a lovely view over the river with French doors leading out to a wooden deck. There were large ‘his and hers’ bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower and two walk-in closets.
Game-viewing – I had probably the best ever game drive in the afternoon (leopard cubs, lion, elephant, pangolin (!) and a leopard kill which was then taken by a hyena), and a good morning drive with lion cubs, rhino and elephant."
