Puku Ridge Tented Camp is located in the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park and offers a real wilderness experience under canvas, yet with attention to luxury and comfort. From this vantage point among the trees, predators and hunters would quietly observe the prolific hunting grounds spread out below. But now visitors come to Puku Ridge to enjoy in the abundance of wildlife and the comforts of a traditional old-world safari camp. Named for the elusive Puku antelope which never strays far from water, this beautiful camp is small and intimate. Six spacious walk-in canvas safari tents offer wraparound views of the plains below. Each tent has twin beds, mosquito nets, private verandah, hairdryer, tea/coffee facilities, ceiling fans and a rather lavish bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a sunken bath. Well-lit paths connect the tents to the main bar/lounge areas with a front viewing deck overlooking the floodplains. The diverse wildlife along the ‘dambo’ (valley) offers great opportunities for photography, whether you choose to explore on foot with a keen-eyed guide, or range further afield in a safari vehicle. Game-viewing is by day and by night using spotlights to track nocturnal animals such as leopard and spotted hyena. Game includes elephant, lion, leopard, wild dog, buffalo and giraffe. And in the evenings, you dine with the night sounds of Africa for a soundtrack. Mfuwe Airport is approx 1½ hours transfer time. |
