Palmwag Lodge | Namibia

[Namibia Hotels and Accommodation]
Palmwag Lodge is the ideal place from which to explore the Damaraland region. It appears as an oasis of palm trees amidst the stark stony landscape. Indeed the perennial spring in the Uniab River at Palmwag Lodge is enjoyed by humans and desert elephant alike. There’s nothing affected about Palmwag Lodge – accommodation ranges from thatch and reed two and four bed chalets to luxury tents. Each has an en suite shower room, mosquito net. There is an a la carte restaurant, thatched pool bar, and a very welcome swimming pool. Palmwag’s appeal is its location and the morning and afternoon guided game drives in search of desert elephant and other wildlife as well as day excursions north to the remote Opuwo region to visit the Himba villages. An added bonus is when, on the rare occasion, desert elephant walk through Palmwag in search of water.

Kate stayed at Palmwag Lodge during November:
"We liked Palmwag! It is relaxed with a range of accommodation on offer from camping through to luxury tents. Its big plus points are a stunning setting with swaying palm trees and a little bit of green lawn to break up the beautiful but extremely arid Damaraland landscape; great flexibility in terms of tours which half day and full day tours which are optional extras allowing the guest to choose what suits him and good value for money· There's also a possibility of seeing desert elephant close to camp as there are 3 elephant who have made the lodge their base and come and go throughout the year.

There are two types of accommodation: standard chalets and luxury tents. The tents are more expensive but definitely recommended as they have more of a bush feel. The chalets range from somewhat old-fashioned bungalows, to 5 standalone chalets which are perfectly nice to chalets 14a and 14b (two bedroom family unit) which are really good as they are newly built and have a small pool right by them so that it feels like their own private pool."
