The Serengeti Serena is set high on a hill with terrific, sweeping views of the plains. The lodge design is reminiscent of a traditional African village, with thatched beehive "huts" housing the luxury en-suite rooms. The decor too is very African with lots of local handicrafts, woodcarving, beadwork and ceramics. A giant central thatched rondavel houses the bar, lounge and dining area and a rim-flow swimming pool affords great views over the grasslands below. This is the ideal compromise for those wanting comfort and a certain level of sophistication but without feeling they have sacrificed a strong spirit of 'place'.
