Acorn House is situated high above the city, in the leafy Gardens suburb, with views to the harbour and Table Mountain behind. Architecturally, the house is typical of the early 1900's Colonial style with its white-painted plaster finish, timber colonnaded verandah and decorative plastered gables. Verandas and the garden with its stylish pool provide views of Table Mountain and the city, while the upstairs rooms look out at the dramatic Table Bay. Each comfortable en suite room has telephone and television. The motifs of oak and acorn are spread throughout the house, even on the good-night chocolate on your pillow. The city centre, the Waterfront and the beaches of the Atlantic are all a few minutes drive away whilst the restaurants of trendy Kloof Street lie close by.

Kate visited in August 2005: "An excellent value for money guest lodge in a beautiful area with stunning city views. Pleasant comfortable rooms, some with superb cityscape views, some with outdoor sitting areas or balconies. Theres an attractive sitting room with honesty bar, leafy garden with swimming pool (again with good views). There are many steps up to the front door so it's probably not suitable for the frail."
