Singita Lebombo Lodge and Singita Sweni Lodge | South Africa

[South Africa Hotels and Accommodation]
Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni both lie within an exclusive private concession within the central Kruger National Park. Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni continue to maintain Singita's worldwide repute as one of the world’s finest and most exclusive safari experiences. Located in a remote part of the Kruger National Park, the lodge derives its name from the Lebombo Mountains that separate South Africa and Mozambique. Lebombo is an exclusive 15,000-hectare private concession where the emphasis is placed on viewing large herds of plains game as well as on individual predator sightings.

Designed with all the style and sophistication that we have come to expect from other Singita lodges, the fifteen loft suites at Lebombo sit perched like eagle's nests among the cactus-like Euphorbia on the basalt cliff tops facing the ancient Lebombo mountain range. Floor to ceiling glass walls ensure that you have a 360° view as you relax under the slatted roof of woven branches. Constructed almost entirely of glass, slatted wood and bleached woven branches, the suites offer absolute exclusivity and privacy. There’s a large bedroom with extensive seating area, writing desk and a deck with a large day bed for afternoon siestas. The bathroom is open plan with sunken bath, indoor shower and outdoor shower. However there’s good use of curtains to separate the room - to create a sense of intimacy when it’s time for bed and to offer privacy in the bathroom. Dining takes place wherever the impulse leads, whether by the pool, the indoor dining area or in the seclusion of your room.

Sweni Lodge comprises six shaded suites on the banks of the Sweni River. While similar in architecture and design as the loft style suites at Lebombo, the Sweni interior lends itself to a more classic safari feel. The lodge makes use of African artefacts, pots, baskets, dark leather, khakis and greens, as opposed to the cliff side suites that are decorated in white fabrics and pale interiors. The public areas overlook the river with river sounds of snorting hippos and birds. There’s a sitting area with fireplace for the winter mornings and evenings, a breakfast area and a glass enclosed dining room which can be left open or closed in the evenings in the cooler winter months. Off to the side is the secluded swimming pool area which also overlooks the river. Sweni guests also enjoy their own dining room, wine cellar, swimming pool and boma.

In addition to Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni, the Trading Post, which lies between the two camps is an organic modernist building comprising a gym and health spa as well as a gallery showcasing leading South African works, a wine boutique where guests can taste rare South African wines and an interactive ranger centre.

Ginny stayed here in March:
The game sightings at Singita Lebombo were actually as impressive as those at Singita Boulders but of a completely different nature - large herds of zebra and buffalo and plenty of elephant. This of course has lead to an increase in predator sightings as well and we saw lion and cheetah during our stay."
